Re: Cough from Revlimid and/or dex?

This is wonderful information. My husband has developed a chronic cough. After ruling out all other causes, we are quite certain it is a side effect of Revlimid.

We have found that NyQuil at night helps him sleep, as well as over-the-counter Delsym (dextromethorphan), seems to help reduce the cough.

He also has developed a wicked case of thrush and taking nystatin.

My husband has been taking Revlimid maintenance 10 mg since May 2016. About January 2017 he developed a cough that hasn't gone away. I was thinking it could be a side effect of Revlimid. His hematologist / oncologist gave him some gastro type medicine which did nothing. The doctor doesn't think it is the Revlimid. We have had my husband's lungs x-rayed and they are clear.

One person told me that, if the coughing were a side effect of the Revlimid, the coughing would have started as soon as my husband started taking Revlimid. But there definitely was a delay.

My conclusion, though, is that this is a side effect of the Revlimid. So the other postings in this thread are interesting to me, but I'm also open to further feedback on the issue.

Thanks.

I too have developed a cough and laryngitis because of a horrible tickly feeling in my throat. I have been on Revlimid/dex now for 16 months and believe that the Revlimid is causing terrible dryness leading to the subsequent tickly feeling in my throat and then massive coughing and difficulty speaking.

It doesn't help that I have Sjogren's, which causes a dry mouth, throat, eyes, basically dryness in all mucous membranes. Because of the Sjogren's and now the dreaded Revlimid, I chew gum, use steam, drink lots of hot tea with honey, use a humidifier etc. to try and combat the dryness.

Perhaps some of these strategies will work for some of you. It's especially bad at night when all you want to do is sleep and the "tickly" feeling rears its ugly head keeping you awake for sometimes hours.

I get dry throat and tickle, and have been combating it by juice and water, and primarily by sucking on cough drops whenever I feel the tickle. I haven’t developed any persistent cough, so maybe the cough drops are helping. I get the big 200-drop bags at one of the national drug store chains.
