Does Revlimid cause low potassium?

by blair77 on Thu Apr 02, 2015 5:29 pm

My husband has to take potassium supplements as his potassium is always low. He is on maintenance Revlimid. Is that what's causing the low potassium?

In a word, yes.

Potassium and Magnesium are often "off" with use of Revlimid.
Revlimid tends to "wash" these electrolytes out of the body.

Curious: What is his Calcium level ?

Good Luck.

My daughter had to have repeated potassium infusions along with magnesium and potassium supplements while on Revlimid.

His calcium is usually right at the normal low end. Usually around 8.6-9.2 But sometimes it's below the normal range too.

Is he taking calcium supps, too ?

I found that low level calcium supps, especially taken around my Zometa infusions ( 3 months), really helped. About 800 mgs + / daily. ( calcium Carbonate--OTC)

My Potassium/ Magnesium levels also stayed a little higher while taking the Calcium supps.

Have him try it for a month and see how he feels.

Good luck.
