My husband had his transplant on 12/30. He has done very well through it all. He had his results taken before and post transplant. I am confused by some of the numbers, they seem to contradict...
We are just 30 days in, but interested to get feedback.

Re: Results 30 days post transplant - feedback / help?
Dear LadyLib,
From what I understand is one can't really tell what's going on on day 30. Day 100 would be a reasonable time to assess how successful a transplant was. The body is recovering and hence the bloodworks fluctuate so much after transplant, especially for the case of the FLC, which have short lives.
I've heard that for some people, the numbers continue to improve post day 100. My Dad's 100-day results were not almost the same with those of pre-transplant; but Docs told him to do nothing and encouraged him to stay positive. We're seeing him next week.
I hope your husband's numbers continue to improve. Stay positive.

Re: Results 30 days post transplant - feedback / help?
Hello,
Have you talked to your doctor? I think that whatever the results (good and bad), if there is anything that strikes you as interesting/noteworthy, I would ask the doc.
Having said that, it does look to me as though everything specifically related to myeloma is going down. Increases in beta 2 microglobulin can have many causes, including the reconstitution of the immune system. So, I think you definitely will want to talk to your husband's doctor, just so that you can get his interpretation of events.
I took a look back at my mom's b2M numbers pre and post ASCT, and although the numbers were not the same, I see the same trend, which is that B2M 30 days after transplant were higher compared to pre-ASCT, and then by 60 days, the B2M had lowered again.

Thanks. It's my impatience that's driving the numbers. I just want this disease to be gone! He did so well in transplant that I've been wondering - did this work or not? His kidneys did not get worst so I guess that is a win as well. Just looking for more auto sct progress stories...

Hi LadyLib. It's good to hear that your husband is doing so well.
You have to be patient with myeloma. He's been through a lot, and it takes time for the body to re-set. Literally, his immune system is not like a baby's and developing all over again. Blood counts will be all over the map for a while but it does settle down, and it is different for everyone.
I agree with the other posters that you should ask your doctor about any concerns you have.

Checked with the doctor and there is no sign of myeloma in urine or blood - no m spike .So we are hoping the trend stays
