Re: Repeating previous treatments after transplant
Good luck to you George on the transplant and to you Joe on finding a successful treatment regimen. Day -1 and Day 0 of the autologous stem cell transplant for me will be this week on June 15 and 16, respectively. Pretty anxious about it, but I have come this far, so I will try and relax and not think about the "what if''s" until if and when they present themselves. Good luck to us all.

Re: Repeating previous treatments after transplant
Good luck Colin and George for the stem cell transplant. One piece of advice I could give is to follow the nurses' advice to the letter, and to chew on ice chips for hour, on the day of getting the melphalan. This is to avoid getting damage to the epithelial lining of the mouth and throat. My husband sat with me and fed me those ice chips until I thought my stomach was frozen! It did help though (for the most part).

Re: Repeating previous treatments after transplant
Colin,
As Nancy mentioned about the ice chips, I went through several large cups of them. But the nurses are the best here and they gave me popsicles in between the cups of ice. I have been given a lot of anti-nausea medications before the chemo. And also before the stem cell infusion procedure. Really, it all went really smooth. Never felt sick at all.
My Day -2 was really a fast paced ordeal. Labs at noon with my doctor appointment at 1:40 p.m.. Then got all my luggage and own pillow up to the room. Tried to organize my clothes and in came the nurses to let me know that my infusion line was going to be placed. They started fluids soon after for the Day -1 chemo.
Now at Day 0 with my cells infused. The nurses brought in a piece of cake and sang Happy Birthday for Day 0. Then they installed a PICC line in my arm. Tomorrow the infusion line comes out.
Best of luck Colin,
George
