When we found out that my husband had kidney impairment due to the multiple myeloma, we were told to go on a renal diet - reducing protein, reducing sodium and reducing potassium. We have been actively adjusting his diet for the past months.
Some doctors tell him to eat what he wants. Others say, watch out for seafood, fish, potatoes, beans, nuts, chocolate, etc. We are thoroughly confused about whether what he eats will affect his kidney more at this point.
He is on sodium bicarb, a light blood pressure pill and a beta blocker. He has had no prior medical issues. Thoughts?

Re: Renal Diet for Kidney Involvement
My kidneys are also compromised and my nephrologist wasn't too concerned about my diet. My kidney function is checked every 6 weeks (eGlomerular Filtration Rate) and they have remained stable and I haven't paid too much attention to my diet. So, who knows what the correct answer is.
Best of luck!

Re: Renal Diet for Kidney Involvement
My creatinine numbers have been sneaking up over the three years since my diagnosis. I don't know if it's from multiple myeloma of because I have another issue that caused me to go into retention. My multiple myeloma is in CR status.
My number was just out of range last time, and my dr. just told me to make sue I drink a lot of water, and do not take any NSAIDS as they are hard on the Kidney.
