I had my bone marrow biopsy on Thursday. The doctor said to leave the bandage on for two days. That would be tomorrow. I'm nervous about removing it. I'm afraid I'll reopen the wound or something. It's on my backside, so that might make it a little harder to remove.
Also, I assume I should probably put a regular Band-Aid on it after I remove it? The doctor didn't say anything about this.
I'd appreciate any tips from experience. Thank you so much for this forum.

Re: Removing bandage after bone marrow biopsy
At least from my experience with my husband's four bone marrow biopsies, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I think maybe once on one side the bandage stuck a little because it had dried blood, and it pulled the scab off and so the spot bled a tiny bit. But nothing a Band-Aid couldn't handle. After his last one last week, the bandage actually fell off on its own after 24 hours and it was fine.
They did tell him to replace the dressing with a Band-Aid.
Hope that helps!

Re: Removing bandage after bone marrow biopsy
Hi,
I don't know about others, but I never had any issues. I didn't put anything on it afterwards. Just wore clean clothing. Taking off the bandage didn't do anything to open up the wound. I have had 4 biopsies so far.
Best wishes, Kim

Re: Removing bandage after bone marrow biopsy
Hello to all of you,
I also had four bone marrow biopsies and never had any problems in removing the bandage. I did it myself. After my third biopsy, I left it in the place one day longer.
I hope my experience helps.

Re: Removing bandage after bone marrow biopsy
I also had a bone marrow biopsy on Thursday. When I read your post, I felt back there and "Behold there was a bandage." I simply peeled it off and there was a small dot of dried blood on it. I'm surprised it didn't come off sooner on it's own.

Re: Removing bandage after bone marrow biopsy
Hi OuchThatHurt,
Glad you got the bandage off ok. I remember that I was a little concerned about messing something up when I removed the bandage after my first bone marrow biopsy.
For what it's worth, on the day that I am allowed take my bandage off, I take my morning shower and then remove the bandage after the shower. My thinking is that the water may loosen up any dried blood, so I'm less likely to pull a scab off.
I've never had any problems, and I'm due for my 8th bone marrow biopsy at the end of August.
Mike
