Re: Dealing with the uncertainty of remission - suggestions?

Hi DallasGG,

What you are describing is only natural for patients with a disease like myeloma. The others hit on the important points. Just to amplify what Mike F said, one of the things that keeps me in a great mental state during my remission is that I know what my next line of therapy will be if I relapse, and studies show it can be a very effective therapy in my situation. I think some of the anxiety is that patients are not confident that their next line of therapy will be effective.

If you do not have a long term treatment plan, you should ask your doctor what their strategy is if you should relapse. Knowing my doctor has a long term strategy for me has been great for my "mental QOL".

Amen, Mike. You nailed it. Knowing that there are something like 50 drugs in the pipeline and incredible genetic research has been very reassuring for me.

Kent,

I am with you. I read this and had to check that I didn't write that post myself. I'm in the same situation and have all the same thoughts. So you're not alone, if that helps. However, I haven't figured out any good way to deal with this other than what others have said here already.

Good luck to you and, all things considered, I hope we have this problem for many, many years.
