Remembering my Father and Brother

by KWV on Sat Aug 31, 2013 7:54 am

I was hesitant to post about my father and brother. I was afraid it might bum out and depress many people like myself fighting this disease. But I realize we are adults and can put this in perspective or at least we should.

I want to remember my father, Howard W. Virgin who contracted multiple myeloma in 1993, he was treated in Ashland KY and lived 13 months. This was back in the dark old days before utilization of Thalidomide, Dex and Revlimid and the advances Pomalyst, Lenalidomide and Kyprolis.

I want to also remember my brother, Marvin L. Virgin , who went to Little Rock with Stage III b and had 2 stem cell transplants, got to participate and see his daughter get married and had 5 yrs and 4 months, he would not have otherwise had to enjoy life.

Look at how much has been learned in the last 20 years and how life expectancy has increased!
