Hi, my wife of 46 was last week diagnosed with multiple myeloma, she starts chemo, steroids and thalidomide on Friday for 6x3 week worth of treatment, then after a 6 week break will have intensive chemo then a stem cell transplant.
Just looking for any help regarding any other experience of someone quite young having this and life expectancy etc.
Any info will be much appreciated.

Re: Recently diagnosed
Do some research on this site. It is all here. If your wife is low risk - based on genetics and other criteria - and responds well to treatment, the outlook is potentially excellent. A median survival of more than ten years - if not closer to 15 years looking forward - is possible, and this will almost certainly be long enough to outlive a cure. Indeed, for younger patients now, it is important to know that extended survival is the rule - and not exception.
But why she would automatically commit to a stem cell transplant is unclear. This should be considered carefully. Again do some research here and elsewhere.

Re: Recently diagnosed
Thanks, will do. I'm here in the UK and that seems to be the standard treatment. I'll investigate this site, thanks once again.
