I have had my skeletal survey and Bone Marrow Biopsy
I would like some clarification about results
1. bone marrow aspirate - a plasmacytosis of approx. 25 -30% with rare binucleated forms is noted.
2. the M:E ratio is approx 2.5:1
3. cellularity is patchy and est. 50 - 60%
4. plasma cell population approx. 25-30%
5. KAPPA stain highlights majority of plasma cell population indicating a kappa restriction
6. KAPPA FREE LIGHT CHAINS 64.90
KAPPA/LAMBDA FLC RATIO 39.80
7. IGG 2770
8. total protein 8.9
9. GAMMA 2.6
10. MPV 12.6
11. no lytic or blastic osseous lesions identified
as I stated in a previous post I have Hepatitis C and have failed two attempts at treatment
Smoldering Meyeloma or MGUS ? and what is prognosis for multiple myeloma and estimated time frame.
thank you for your assistance in understanding my test results.

Re: Questions about Bone Marrow Biopsy results
I'm newly diagnosed but, looking at your numbers I'd say SMM.
Do you have a Myeloma specialist?
I go to an oncologist/hematologist for regular blood tests. But, I also have a Myeloma specialist. They work together.
These are my Kappa/Lambda numbers
FREE KAPPA SERUM 64.41
FREE LAMBDA SERUM 5.11
FREE KAPPA/LAMBDA RAT. 12.605
They were worse(Kappa was 20 points higher) 3 months ago. Wondering if the Curcumin I've been taking has had an effect?

Re: Questions about Bone Marrow Biopsy results
Mine are ~
KAPPA FREE LIGHT CHAIN 64.90
LAMBDA FREE LIGHT CHAIN 1.63
KAPPA/LAMBDA FLC RATIO 39.80
what does ~ a plasmacytosis of approximately 25% with rare binucleated forms is noted~ mean?
The report says SMM I wondered if the Dr.'s here concurred? I don't have bone lesions or kidney problems yet.
My numbers on several things are at the extremes but not over the 'normal' number(s).
I appreciate assistance understanding this.
Do you, Stan, have any information on what your Dr. suggested for you? What symptoms do you have? Are you starting treatment or do they want to wait? I am interested in any information you might add. I hope a Dr. will come by and offer a professional opinion soon.

Re: Questions about Bone Marrow Biopsy results
I'm SMM. I don't understand all the data but, I need to watch the light chain numbers as well as IgG.
No treatment. Starting a trial to help bones and hopefully slow Myeloma in bone marrow. Drug
Is called BHQ880.
Also went to NIH to be in the Myeloma Natural Progression Study. Was offered to take part in the Carfilzomib trial for SMM.
Passed on that but, there's a trial with oral version of Velcade coming.
I'll have to leave the BHQ880 trial for that. I'll discuss with all my doctors and specialists which would give me the best chance of continuing to remain stable.
Right now I'm hoping the Curcumin and green tea extract is doing that.

Re: Questions about Bone Marrow Biopsy results
Thanks for your reply. Where do you get the curcumin and green tea extract. My Dr. has offered no treatment yet. Do you have any bone lesions or kidney involvement yet? Thanks Stan W. I am still hoping a Dr. will respond to this with their opinions but our numbers seem to be similar so your input is greatly appreciated.

Re: Questions about Bone Marrow Biopsy results
Doctors Best Curcumin 1000 mg. I take 8000 mg per day
Green Tea 1000mg per day.
Purchased from Vitacost.com
I have no symptoms. No bone lesions, no anemia and no kidney issues.
Your M-Spike is also an important number to watch.
You should seek a second opinion with a Myeloma Specialist.
Good luck!
