Question on iga and igm

by Jackson56 on Sat Dec 01, 2012 3:25 am

I have multiple myeloma, diagnosed may 2012.
I have had Velcade, dex, and revlimide 2week cycles sine then. And have been accepted to Stanford for a SCt mid January next year. All my numbers are in good range, and have been put me on once a week Velcade. My question is I just got my lab work back and my IGA is 11 normal range is 40 to 375. And my IGM is 17 normal is 30 to 190.i was suppose to get Velcade today, I refused it because my numbers are low. The doctors want me to get my numbers lower, but doesn't that destroy my immune system?? I would think that they would try to keep me healthy until mid January where they will kill my balance of cancer cells/immune system. Knowing that they keep a daily eye on me...can anybody help me on this

I would agree with your MDs to continue Velcade weekly (I do 4 weeks on 2 weeks off- 6 week cycles) until your vital organ testing and transplant in January. Generally, after VOT all therapy is discontinued until you receive your conditioning regimen (high-dose melphalan, or HDM).

There is the potential for improved response. There is also the potential for progression of disease off therapy. As long as your side effects are low -- i.e. ,you are tolerating therapy well -- I would continue.
