Re: Psychological counseling prior to stem cell transplant?
I was required to be screened by a social worker as part of the pre-transplant work up. I didn't find the transplant itself psychologically taxing as much as the recovery at home afterwards. The days and nights were endless. There was a nurse through my insurance company who called periodically and she was enormously helpful. I did talk to a social worker as well, and she was less so.
