Protein drink or powder

by Patricia on Fri Jul 06, 2012 1:01 pm

I am looking for a good protein drink or powder. Anybody know of one? I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma two weeks before Christmas 2011.

Patricia,

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for something with more calories, Muscle Milk has a variety of flavors. Muscle Milk comes in ready to drink containers and powder form. Optimum Nutrition 100% Casein Protein powder is a low calorie protein product. Casein is a longer lasting protein. I think the taste is pretty good. Whey Protein is a protein that breaks down faster than Casein. Whey is better to use before and after working out. I think Casein is better as a meal replacement because I feel fuller longer after drinking Casein. There is also a brand Pure Protein that comes in RTD containers that I drink that I like.

Hi Patricia,

I like Muscle Milk because I can get a good deal on a huge bag of it at Costco for under $40. There is a protein powder that they sell at Nutrishop that I like even better but costs a little more. It's called Forzaone. Their vanilla flavor tastes good. I've been drinking protein drinks for over 2 years at least once a day to help me with my muscle building goals.

Did you check with your oncologist to see if it is OK for you to use a protein supplement? They can be hard on your kidneys, which are already challenged with multiple myeloma.
