Re: Have I progressed from MGUS to multiple myeloma?
Thanks multibilly,
So I am kappa free light chain? My chances of it going to multiple myeloma are greater? Just trying to wrap my head around this when I got breast cancer 9 years ago I was Her 2 positive which meant it was much more aggressive. I guess my body just likes to make cancer. Celebrated my 36 wedding anniversary today and wonder if I will have any more.

Re: Have I progressed from MGUS to multiple myeloma?
Debi,
Yes, it appears to be kappa-type light chain MGUS, provided that your doc has already given you a diagnosis of light chain MGUS.
I realize you are worried about this diagnosis, but the chance of light chain MGUS progressing to symptomatic multiple myeloma is quite low. You might want to read through this thread and note Dr. Kapoor's statement on the risk of progression for light chain MGUS:

Light chain MGUS may progress through idiopathic Bence Jones proteinuria to light chain multiple myeloma or AL amyloidosis, or light chain deposition disease. The estimated risk of progression is much lower, at 0.3 percent per year.

I had full body X-rays today. Will get results next week. I have MGUS. If I have lesions, will I change to multiple myeloma?

Re: Have I progressed from MGUS to multiple myeloma?
Debi,
By definition, if your xray revealed lytic lesions that were caused by your monoclonal gammopathy, you would then be diagnosed with symptomatic multiple myeloma at the time. But note that it is pretty unlikely that your xray will show any problems given that your numbers aren't that far out of range.

Re: Have I progressed from MGUS to multiple myeloma?
Multibilly,
You are right. Just got back from the doctor and she said x-rays were clear of any lytic lesion. She said we will do another blood test in May.
