Prognosis given no remission
My wife was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in July of 2009. She has had two stem cell transplants (auto) and was just removed from a Revlimid Maintenance Program. The doctors acknowledge she has a very agressive form of multiple myeloma. She has not had any time when the disease has been in remission. I know the outlook is not good, but how long can she survive without ever going into remission? Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.
Re: Prognosis given no remission
From what I've read and from people who I've met, many people live a long time without ever reaching remission. Their paraprotein levels or their free lite levels seem to get to a certain point and remain there for months and years. It seems that if the levels remain fairly stable that it is possible to live quite a long time without too many problems.
Why did your wife's oncologist take her off of the Revlimid? Is there any suggestion of trying her on some other regimen? Have her levels remained stable even if not in CR?
