Update: 6 months after my husband's ASCT

by Nanjeanne on Wed Oct 14, 2015 11:39 am

My husband had a stem cell transplant in April and had a very easy time of it (we were extremely fortunate). However, at 90+ days after his transplant, he still had same m-spike (0.4 g/dL, 4 g/L) coming out as going in. The background was all posted in this earlier forum thread,

"Numbers aren't changing 90 days post SCT" (started July 17, 2105)

and I received some very helpful and encouraging advice from members here.

As an update ... At 5 months, his M-spike was down to 0.3 g/dl and now at almost 6 months it appears to be 0.2 g/dl. So, as others have told us, it does appear that the M-spike can continue to decrease months after the stem cell transplant.

He is on 10 mg Revlimid and has been since around 100 days post transplant, and this is probably also contributing to the M-spike continuing to decrease. He has never, pre-transplant, had an M-spike lower than 0.3 g/dL, so this is cause for a modest celebration!

Of course, his WBC is also going down, but he is feeling really good and hasn't really had any issues with anything more than some minor fatigue towards the end of his 3 weeks on. Hopefully we can get through the winter without problems.

So, for anyone facing the same thing, Keep The Faith. We are keeping fingers crossed that this downward trend continues!

Thanks for the update, Nanjeanne. I'm really glad to hear that your husband's M-spike has gone down a bit. You never know -- it may keep going down. I just hope it stays down for a LONG time!

Good luck!

Hi Nanjeanne,

Thanks for the update. It's great to hear that your husband is doing so well – both in terms of the M-spike dropping and in terms of only minor side effects to the Revlimid.

Here's hoping all the good news continues for a long time!
