I am considering a move to Portland, OR.
For those who live in the area, do you you utilize the Oregon Health Sciences University for your care and have you found any solid multiple myeloma specialists there or in the vicinity of Portland?
Or, do you instead make a trip to the Seattle area to seek out multiple myeloma specialists?

Re: Portland, Oregon multiple myeloma specialists
Just wondering if anyone knows of any specialist in the Portland Oregon area? I am currently being seen at Kaiser with a hematologist - oncologist. She's great, but want to keep my options open if I need a second opinion.
Thank you for your help!

Re: Portland, Oregon multiple myeloma specialists
I can't speak for myeloma specialists in the Portland area, but I can highly recommend the myeloma specialists at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance as well as the soon to be Hematological Disorders Clinic at Swedish Cancer Institute. Several SCCA doctors and their PAs, including my doctor and PA, are relocating to this clinic. The grand opening, including a brand new facility, is scheduled for this fall. Driving to Seattle from Portland only takes about 3 hours in good traffic.

Hi cslatosch (and, belatedly, Multibilly),
Dr. Emma Scott is a myeloma specialist at the Knight Cancer Institute / OHSU in Portland. I don't know whether she has any colleagues there who would be considered myeloma specialists, but she definitely is focused on myeloma and related plasma disorders.
Also, as Sue mentioned, SCCA is also an option, and they certainly have a number of myeloma specialists.

Re: Portland, Oregon multiple myeloma specialists
Hello,
I live in Oregon and appear to have progressed to multiple myeloma after 9 years of MGUS. My free light chain ratio is high and rising, my M-spike rising, my MRI shows multiple bone lesions, and I'm awaiting a bone marrow biopsy in a few days.
I wonder if there are any other myeloma specialists I should know about in the Pacific Northwest? I live in Medford, Oregon and all of the hematologist-oncologists here are generalists and see all kinds of cancer.
Thank you very much.

Re: Portland, Oregon multiple myeloma specialists
I've not heard of any myeloma specialists closer to you than Portland. I was considering a move to Ashland just before diagnosis, and afterwards looked into this. Had I made the move, probably I would have gone to Seattle, or a bit closer to UCSF which has two multiple myeloma specialists (Jeffrey Wolfe and Thomas Martin).
