Re: Do you drink pop / soda?

by Allison on Wed Jul 16, 2014 12:58 am

I do not drink diet soda. I rarely have soda and would choose regular if I did drink it.

This question brought back memories to me. When I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma a few people said to me, "Allison, you're one of the healthiest people I know. You eat wisely. "

All those years of nutritious food in moderation ... I should have been living it up! Eating, drinking, smoking whatever. ;)

Before multiple myeloma, I drank a 2 liter bottle of Diet Pepsi a day. Now I drink only water and the occasional glass of unsweetened tea when we go out to eat.

I averaged one diet soda per day before diagnosis two years ago. I avoided artificial sweeteners in all other products, so I don't feel like I was ingesting a large amount of artificial sweeteners. I drink an occasional Diet Coke now. I have always tried to eat healthy and used the philosophy of "moderation."

I've consumed probably a total of 5 soft drinks in my entire life! 69 years. Never could get those bubbles down, even as a kid. So I guess soda/pop did not cause my myeloma.

I used to drink 2-3 diet or low cal drinks/sodas a day. I stopped after my diagnosis. Still have a can of regular soda 2-3 times a week. I've basically cut out all artificial sweeteners.

I drank a lot of diet soda daily prior to my diagnosis of MGUS in 2005 at which time I quit and started an Organic/ natural whole food diet. It didn't prevent progression.

Asparatame is poison and has been linked to blood cancers. For those of you saying NO to soda when you answer this question, please consider other sources of asparatame as well, such as diet foods and chewing gum.

You and I both! I have no other health issues due to the fact I took good care of my mind, body, and soul! Some days I think of going on a binge and eating, drinking, and smoking too! But I have seen the effects of those things on other people.

I do not eat false sugars. I am allergic to them. Raw sugar and honey are the way to go for me. I stay away from most processed foods. ;)

I've never liked any type of diet soda and have stayed away from it from the time I first tasted it. I used to drink more regular soda than I do now, but even then it was no more than a can a day.

Hello,

It's been at least 15 years that I no longer drink sodas, colas, and full sugar drinks.

I have forbidden all sodas, even diet, at home for everyone (children and diabetic husband), but I buy pure fruit juices. I do not know if that is better after all!

And I was diagnosed with MGUS at the end of 2010. Now the hematologist puts me in myeloma stage 1.
