Pomalyst and hair loss
My wife is on 3mg Pomalyst for 21 days and 12mg Dex weekly during that time. She has been losing a lot of hair. Can anything be done about this? Thanks for reading and responding. Edward

Re: pomalyst and hair loss
I have not personally had patients complain of this from pomalyst. However, this is a very new drug and hair loss may be possible. The other consideration is if the hair loss is from prior treatments. Did she ever receive Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) or melphalan?

Previously she was on Revlimid, then Velcade then bendamustine. She had some hair loss with Velcade but nothing like with Pomalyst.

Re: pomalyst and hair loss
My husband has been on Pomalyst 4 mg, Dex, and Velcade SubQ for three months. He has experienced no hair loss at all. However, there has been a change in the texture of his hair. And, unfortunately, this drug combination is not working. We are going to give it one more month to try to kick in - then we will have to change to something else.

Re: Pomalyst and hair loss
I believe "hair loss" is not listed as a side effect in Celgene's handbook on Pomalyst.

Re: Pomalyst and hair loss
In case anyone is interested, this is the official FDA-approved prescribing information ("label", as it's sometimes called) for Pomalyst:
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2013/204026lbl.pdf
The side effects seen in the clinical trials that were reviewed when the drug was approved are listed in tables 2, 3, and 4 of the document.
Like Mike, I'm not seeing any mention of hair loss or "alopecia", as hair loss is sometimes called in medical circles.

Re: Pomalyst and hair loss
I have been on 2 mg Pomalyst,10 mg Decadron, and Kyprolis since late December 2016 after relapsing. I know one of them is causing my hair to thin out. It started 2 months ago. Not in clumps, but a gradual thinning.

Re: Pomalyst and hair loss
I have been taking Pomalyst for a week.
I've had a few side effects from it that drive me nuts, but for which I have also found remedies. One thing I have noticed is that (and it's too early to tell, I know) my hair seems to actually be thicker.
It's starting to break the hair clips again.
Darn.
Getting my good hair back a month before I lose it all? How fair is that?
