Polyclonal light chains

by sandra256 on Fri Apr 24, 2015 11:37 am

Good day everyone,

I have been looking everywhere and I can't seem to find an answer to my question. I know that polyclonal and monoclonal light chains are really different.

My question is, do polyclonal light chains rise in a free light chain essay? Or is there an specific free light chain essay for polyclonal light chains?

Thanks in advance

The Freelite serum free light chain assay measures your TOTAL kappa and total lambda free light chain values, regardless of their clonality. In other words, the test doesn't distinguish between monoclonal and polyclonal free light chains.

This is similar to your quantitative immunoglobulin test, where the involved immunoglobulin (heavy chain) measurement is made up of both polyclonal and monoclonal heavy chains.
