Hi, we're using an integrative approach to myeloma with western medicine and natural therapies. It's working fairly well so far, but we're only 2 months in.
My question is, has anyone tried poly-mva, a palladium alpha lipoic acid complex? I'm hearing and seeing great things about it from people with myeloma getting great results.
Here's a myeloma case study and link to the product's website
http://www.polymva.com/blog-news/132/poly-mva-an-integrative-approach-to-specific-cancers-case-studies/
I'm just wanting to do a lot of research before we make our decision, so thought I'd post up here to see what others think, or have experienced.
Thanks! Carlin and James

Welcome to the forum, Carlin and James.
It's great to hear that you're trying to integrate both standard and alternative approaches to the treatment of myeloma. If you get a chance, update us occasionally on what you've been doing and how it's going.
Regarding Poly-MVA, the American Cancer Society has this information page about it:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/eto/content/eto_5_3x_poly-mva.asp
One of the case studies involving Poly-MVA and myeloma is written up in detail at the website of the company that manufactures and sells Poly-MVA. Here's the link:
http://www.polymva.com/pdf/MultipleMyeloma-final-revision.pdf
One of the authors of the case study is Dr. Shari Lieberman, the person who is mentioned in the link you provided. I'm not sure whether it's relevant or not, but I found it interesting that Dr. Lieberman died of breast cancer last year. More information about her is available at this link:
http://www.quackwatch.org/11Ind/lieberman.html ,
which obviously is written by someone who did not like Dr. Lieberman very much!
I looked to see if there are any formal clinical trials involving Poly-MVA listed at ClinicalTrials.Gov, but couldn't find any. Were you able to find any?
Good luck!

Re: Poly-MVA - has anyone tried this?
The public needs to know that the American Cancer society, and Susan Kome, Revlon Walk, Avon Walk will not tell consumers about the dangers of chemicals in everyday personal care and beauty cosmetics, Go into their search engines, and nothing will come up on chemicals in products. Because they are supported by the pharmaceutical and beauty industry, that manufactures the very chemicals we all need to avoid. Think before you pink and give your "cancer research" money in organizations who state that the money is going to prevention. Only groups that disclose this information should get your money.

Hi and yes we have use and continue to use it. Great product in our opinion.
Do your own balanced research. It took us some time but after checking into it and getting references to and from doctors. We felt very comfortable with this as part of our overall protocol.
We supported the many aspect of POLYMVA so that we could have the best chance and health. Good luck and if you would like some references let me know.
Best of luck and God bless,
Regards allen

Re: Poly-MVA - has anyone tried this?
As far as I know no formal clinical trials yet, but one of the company's docs (PhD) is at SUNY stonybrook I think and is getting some studies going, from what I remember from my research. Our hematologist (who is very open-minded about natural medicine, but always does his own research before he tells us he approves it) looked into it, and said though he couldn't find any concrete studies, the science did sound promising and it didn't have any adverse reactions with any of the drugs we're currently on (thalidomide, dex, idarubicin, cyclophosphamide).
Going to do a bit more research (I'm a naturopathic doctor, and also have a masters in public health, so I"m fairly confident in my ability to sift through research) and then make a decision. Will keep updating when I find out more.

Ouch! I read the scathing review of this supplement on the American Cancer Society link provided above. Poly-MVA may offer some benefits, but shouldn't some scientific data supporting its use be important? I certainly wouldn't count on the stuff. Like other supplements, I might use it in moderation – but certainly not as a cure-all or cornerstone of my therapy. Pat

Re: Poly-MVA - has anyone tried this?
I finally did some searching at PubMed for scientific publications about Poly-MVA. I found four articles - one from 2004, two from 2009, and one from this year.
None of the articles concern the use of Poly-MVA as a treatment for multiple myeloma.
In fact, none of the articles concern the use of Poly-MVA as a treatment for any kind of cancer.
Instead, two articles look at the impact of Poly-MVA on rat heart tissue, one article looks at the impact of Poly-MVA on the brain function of gerbils after simulated heart attacks, and the final article looks at Poly-MVA's electrical properties.
This link will take you to a list of the articles at PubMed:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=poly-mva
The 2004 article, which is the one involving gerbils, was done by researchers at SUNY Stony Brook. The two studies involving rat heart tissue were done by scientists at a research center in India. The other study was done by researchers at a Portuguese university.

Re: Poly-MVA - has anyone tried this?
I'm impressed at the openness and courtesy shown in the discussions here.
That said, on this topic, I think we need to be frank. We need to stop beating around the bush.
If there were any serious science supporting the use of "poly-mva" as a multiple myeloma treatment, don't you think there would be at least one researcher at some reasonably well-known cancer center doing research on the subject?
If there were any serious science supporting "poly-mva" as a myeloma treatment, why is Google's first search suggestion "poly-mva scam" after you start typing "poly-mva" into the Google search box? (Go to Google yourself and start typing "poly-mva". You'll see what I mean.)
If there were any serious science supporting the use of the vitamin-enriched water these scammers are trying to pawn off to desperate cancer patients, do you think there would be web pages like this
http://www.ratemds.com/social/?q=node/32285
with convincing evidence that "poly-mva" is nothing more than snake oil?

Re: Poly-MVA - has anyone tried this?
I just started checking out PolyMVA for my wife's and niece’s breast cancers and found this blog. My only comment so far is in reference to Chuck’s statement about the lack of well-known centers doing alternative research.
Through my research it has become abundantly clear that almost all well-known cancer research centers are controlled either directly or indirectly by Big Pharma. Same with organizations like FDA, American Cancer Society, Komen for the Cure, etc.
I can’t speak for the legitimacy of PolyMVA, but there are other alternative treatments that have proven success that have been condemned by these groups, like the Burzinski Cancer Center which has been hounded for years by the FDA.
I think most doctors are afraid of the personal repercussions that would occur if it were exposed that their treatments aren’t the best options. How would you feel if you found out that chemo really didn’t work after losing 50+% of your patients? I don’t think that many doctors want to admit that quandary colors their perception of alternative choices.
I don’t know if any alternative treatments work, but centuries of herbal remedies seem to be in their favour. I do know that chemo/radiation doesn’t seem to be the answer.
After decades and billions of dollars isn’t it time we question whether we are moving in the right direction and start embracing other paths? After all, our belief and trust in the banking and financial industries brought us to the brink of ruin. Why would the medical industry be any different?

Re: Poly-MVA - has anyone tried this?
JimmyJoe,
I am very sorry to hear about the breast cancer that your wife and niece have. I hope both of them are being treated by caring doctors who can give them the advice and treatment they need.
I also hope that you are not seriously considering relying on Poly-MVA to treat their cancer. Thanks to the efforts of leading cancer research centers, government research funding, and the efforts of countless pharmaceutical and biotech companies, breast cancer patients today have a very high chance of being cured of their disease.
Yes, cured.
It isn't Poly-MVA or other herbs and supplements that are curing breast cancer patients today.
And, to stay on topic, it isn't Poly-MVA, herbs, or supplements that have added years to life expectancy of multiple myeloma patients. It's been medical science and clinical trials of drugs like thalidomide, Velcade and Revlimid.
We all know pharmaceutical companies have a lot of power. Just about any big organization with lots of money does. Big Oil. Big Auto. Big Labor. There are tons of examples.
But you can't really expect us to take you seriously when you make statements like: "it has become abundantly clear that almost all well-known cancer research centers are controlled either directly or indirectly by Big Pharma. Same with organizations like FDA, American Cancer Society, Komen for Cure, etc."
Right. And a cabal of European industrialists secretly runs America ... and they're actually controlled by the Pope, who gets advice from Elvis whenever he's in Rome.
Next time you get a headache, feel free not to take aspirin or some other pain killer developed by Big Pharma. Next time you get an infection, feel free not to take the antibiotics developed by Big Pharma.
If you happen to get AIDS, feel free not to take the Big Pharma drugs that have turned a death sentence into a manageable condition. And, if you get cancer, feel free to take Poly MVA instead of the countless Big Pharma treatments that have significantly increased cancer cure rates over the past 30-40 years.
But, please, don't try to impose your suicidal way of looking at modern medicine on your wife, your niece, or the good people of this forum looking for truly helpful advice and support.
