Platelet levels post stem cell transplant
After a steady rise to 139k platelets they have dropped to 99k post ASCT [autologous stem cell transplantation] at day 50. Has anyone experienced platelets dropping after initial rise? He resumed taking bactrim on 12/13.

Mine have never been above 120, and are often below 100.

Yes.
Dad's platelet level was rising steadily to 170k-ish, and at week 4 post hospital discharge, it went down to 85k with no reasons. Then we took the blood test two weeks after, yet again with no apparent reasons, it went back to 180k.
My doc said that the body's confused and act weirdly post ASCT. After that, we don't notice any weird lab tests. We never stopped any prescribed meds.
Make sure you repeat the test the following one or two weeks to make sure that it's just a spike. And dont forget to tell your doc!

My husband's levels were so low before the transplant he had several units of platelets. Afterward they went right up and have stabilized.

I am 2 1/2 years out since my transplant. Post transplant my platelet levels go from 90 to 145. Maintenance drugs will affect platelet levels and cause them to vary. My oncologist hematologist also explained that sometimes the test doesn't give a true reading. Once when I was concerned that the level was around 90 he re-tested and it was actually closer to normal (130.)

Platelet levels can also vary depending on whether a blood test was run from a vial of blood or a couple of drops from a finger stick.
I don't remember if my platelets dropped a few months after my SCT, but they definitely went up and down constantly while I was taking Revlimid as a maintenance drug post-SCT. I have been off meds for a year now, and my platelet levels are normal and stable.
