PET scan results - how long to get them?

by blair77 on Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:51 pm

For those of you who have had PET scans, how long until you received the results? It's been 3 days so I am trying to patiently wait for a call

Blair,

I assume you mean the radiologist's report from the PET/CT session.

In my experience, it usually takes a day or two for the radiologist to write up his/her report and for it to be available. Have you contacted the radiology department where you had the imaging done to get a copy, or are you waiting on your doctor's office to supply it? Some institutions require that the doctor disseminate the report, while with others I can simply get the report from the imaging facility.

I also always request a CD of my imaging as I leave the imaging facility, but that's another topic.

I was thinking the doctor would call to discuss results? Perhaps, that's naive and I should call and ask? We don't have an appointment scheduled till the 24th.
