Hello to all the people in this forum. I am new here and was wondering if anyone could help me understand what COULD be going on. Of course I am Googling and getting a little scared.
Long story short, went to my primary doctor for my annual checkup. Told her about the neuropathy in my toes and getting weird sensations in arms and fingers. She said, Roseann, I don't think it's diabetes, but carpal tunnel and a nerve problem, suggested a neurologist.
Neurologist tested me for nerve damage, nothing came up but carpal in both arms. She had me go for blood work and called to tell me I had a protein in my blood work and wanted me to see hematologist.
First visit the hematologist explained what would be the next step and told me not to worry I do not have cancer (WHAT). So my blood was taken and he told me it goes to a certain lab. From that blood work the results went to the neurologist and I can read through a website. Talked about monoclonal gammopathy, no clue what it meant. Went to hematologist on Monday, he showed me what the results showed:
Free Kappa Lt Chains S 26.45 High mg/L 3.30-19.40
(the hematologist circled this and told me it was normal)
Free Lambda Lt Chains, S 14.24 mg/l 5.71-26.30
Kappa/Lambda Ratio, S 1.86 High
He told me to go for the 24-hour urine test and also gave me a script for:
PET/CT Scan (mid thigh)
Instructions (it reads as follows) Compare with prior: no reason: monoclonal gammopathy with neuropathy. Myeloma / lymphoma staging << This is scaring me!
I am 65 and babysitting my beautiful grandchildren, so of course I am achy. Back hurts from changing diapers, bending over. Fingers hurt, right ankle is painful, tenderness on both sides of stomach and a few months ago I was borderline diabetic. I don't have any needle and pins feeling or burning in feet, it just feels numb but I can walk!! Neuropathy is almost a year in a few months and I do believe ARTY CAME TO VISIT AND IS NOT LEAVING! If it is arthritis, I had no idea it could be painful like this.
I would appreciate any feedback

PET-CT ordered after blood work - should I be worried?
No doctors are in today to answer, but my results to the PET scan were reported to my neurologist and I have a portal to see results but again no clue!
It reads: Clinical Indication Multiple Myeloma.
I am bracing for the worst but hoping someone could help me. To think I have to wait till Monday is beyond stressful! Thank you so much!

Re: PET-CT ordered after blood work - should I be worried?
Hello,
I would try not to panic yet. I know, easier said than done (been there myself), but your kappa light chains are barley elevated and your ratio is just out of range.
Do you know what your M-spike (M-protein) level is?
Also maybe the "clinical indication multiple myeloma" just refers to the reason they were running the scan.
