Periosteal and subcortical edema

by kjpoppit on Sun Dec 18, 2016 3:32 am

Can anyone explain this? Anyone else complain of pain and get that for an answer? I don't really know if I should be concerned or not.

I have had some minor pain in my right hip for around 6 months. Had an MRI 3 months ago and again a few weeks ago. The results said everything was normal but said there was subtle enhancing periosteal and subcortical edema. The second MRI had the same results but said there was a slight improvement. My oncologist only said things seemed fine and perhaps there was a tendinitis issue but no suggestions on what to do.

Perhaps this is a work place ergonomics issue with my chair but since I also have multiple myeloma I am going to be a little more suspicious.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Should I be concerned? What should I be looking for in terms of whether or not I should explore this more or get a better explanation?

Merry Christmas,
Kim

Kim-

If your oncologist hasn't suggested/referred you to an orthopedist, I would suggest that you make an appointment with one. There shouldn't be edema in the hip joint, so something is going on. Remember that not all of our problems are myeloma related.

I hope that you find the answer to why you are having pain,
