I would like to start commenting on 'Enjoy Every Sandwich' with just a small remark about Chapter 15, 'Pennies from Heaven'. The author suddenly starts to find pennies everywhere he looks, and at first he thinks that his wife is planting them for him to find! But I am sure this is allegorical.
While out walking with our family dog a while ago, across a gravel parking lot, I spotted a really battered penny. 'Find a penny, pick it up, for it will bring you good luck!'...the childhood rhyme ran through my head. So I picked it up and put it in a pocket...a few years ago I would not even have picked up a dime on the road! This happened before I read the book...hmmm.
Hope that's not a 'spoiler' type comment. I enjoyed the whole book, for I found it to be well written, informative in a medical way (written by a doctor) and also quite spiritual.

Re: Pennies from Heaven
I enjoyed this book in general. I too pick up pennies I find but I have always done that-good luck you know. I felt that there was a lot of good information or revelation of how he felt about cancer, family and friends. His family was certainly supportive which is very helpful to a patient with a long-term illness. I did have some problem with some of the spirituality when it came to the visions he saw of himself in the past before he was born. I would recommend the book to others for its openness about cancer-even how doctors with cancer can feel like the rest of us. It is a very quick read which made it enjoyable.
