As husband is getting ready to get his autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) date, how important is it to get pain under control prior to starting? He uses a fentanyl patch with oxycodone for breakthrough pain, which is pretty much every day anymore. Just doesn't seem to be doing the trick anymore.
Trying to get a new script for it for 2 days duration instead of the current 3 days, but he needs to get that done through pain management, where we have an appointment on Monday morning.

It isn't clear what is "in pain"?
Some of the shots they give you to stimulate stem cell growth will cause leg pain.
My husband's peripheral neuropathy seemed to get a little worse after his stem cell transplant. He would get leg pain and weakness. It is getting better. The peripheral neuropathy is due to Velcade.
I don't know if you have to get the pain managed before stem cell transplant. I do hope he can be as comfortable as possible due to some of the inconveniences that come with a transplant.
