Background: I am a possible newly diagnosed patient awaiting confirmation from specialist that I will be seeing next week at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory in Atlanta.
I have many, many questions, but the three today relate to something that I have unable to find any information on any of the websites I've visited (so maybe I shouldn't even have the questions) ... but. I am currently 67 years old and had Osteomylitis as a child.
1. Any known connection Osteomylitis and Myeloma?
2. Could the Osteomylitis childhood now be causing abnormal total protein (8.6), abnormal mooclonal band in Beta region, and elevated IgG (2822 mg/dl)?
3. Could having had Osteomylitis prevent my stem cells from being collected should a stell cell transplant be recommended at some time in the future.
In the late 1990's I had a friend with breast cancer who needed stem cells...and Emory would not allow me to donate mine. They mentioned due to high fevers associated with the Osteo disease. Thanks for any information you can provide.
