On Velcade & dex - can I color my hair?
I'm on Velcade and dexamethasone. Can anyone tell me if I can color my hair? Will I lose my hair if I color it?

Re: On Velcade & dex - can I color my hair?
I was highlighting my hair prior to treatment. I was told when started on Velcade and dex (along with Cytoxan, which was later switched to Revlimid) that the color would probably not 'take'. Well, I'm stubborn, did it anyway, every 12 weeks, totaling 3 times, and it worked just fine. Again, I was not doing a full color, just highlights. My hair was in great shape. I only stopped doing it for now, because I don't have any hair at all! But that's because I had a stem cell transplant in August. Had nothing to do with Velcade or dex!

Re: On Velcade & dex - can I color my hair?
Hey there....
I was on a 6 month cycle of oral cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan), dex and Velcade. I colored, cut and did whatever I pleased with my hair. My philosophy was that it was going to fall out during my stem cell transplant, so I may as well be happy with it up until then. Then is now. I had a long dose of IV Cytoxan yesterday, and I start the Neupogen shots later this morning.
Style your hair and color it happy! Just because you are ill doesn't mean you have to look or live like you are sick. If you are unsure about the products, talk to your stylist. There are a myriad of products that are gentle to the scalp and able to color your hair.

Re: On Velcade & dex - can I color my hair?
I stopped coloring my hair at diagnosis. I am 7-1/2 years out. My 50-year high school reunion was last year, so I decided to color my hair. That was a year ago, and it has taken, and lasts 4 to 6 weeks. So far so good!
I have been on Velcade, Doxil, Revlimid, dexamethasone, and a clinical trial using elotuzumab.

I did 4 cycles of Cy/Bor/D and successfully coloured my hair the whole time. Go for it!

Hi,
I stopped coloring my hair because I was worried about the harsh chemicals involved. Recently I have been using henna on my hair. Is anyone else worried that the chemicals involved will Nyerere with there recovery?

Like Debbi, I was worried about the chemicals used in hair dye and did not resume coloring my hair once it grew back following my SCT. Then I read about the oncologists in New York City who are encouraging their breast cancer patients to get their hair styled and colored so that they start feeling good about themselves as women. I then asked my oncologist if it was ok to color my hair. He said yes, although he also likes my hair just as it is -- as do my daughter, my staff and my friends, so I haven't started coloring it again. And, at my age, I like having some grey in it.

I forgot to add that I've been on Velcade and dex since the summer. I don't think my oncologist would tell me "no" if I decided to start coloring my hair again.

Has anyone found a product that is safe? I am worried about the chemicals in hair dye and how they affect multiple myeloma while on CyBorD.
Thanks

Re: On Velcade & dex - can I color my hair?
When I was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma five years ago, I asked the nurses if I was still able to die my hair. They told me I should not die it. So I decided not to die my hair. I let it grow out: 5 inches of gray white hair. I wore hats the whole time.
As soon as I went into remission, I started dying my hair again. I've been in remission for almost 4 1/2 years, but the myeloma has come back. I went for treatment today. I asked the nurse, am I able to die my hair while taking Velcade? She told me the Velcade makes your skin dry and it would make my scalp dry if I continued to dye my hair. I told her she better give me a better reason than that.
