Re: Oligoclonal banding post stem cell transplant

Hi mrozdav,

Sorry to be slow in getting back to you. I've been traveling most of the time since my reply, and have fallen behind in my Forum reading again. :(

I see Andrew has responded to your question. It looks like he did a good job of answering it, so mainly I just wanted to apologize for my (too) slow reply.

I want to go back and read Andrew's previous posts to fill in gaps in my understanding too. Thanks, Andrew!

Best wishes,
Mike

Good morning, all:

Here is a new twist.

I just got back my immunofixation electrophoresis (IFE) from the March 25 blood draw. There is no band and no sign of gammopathy. However, the IgA is somewhat low (as noted earlier, 78 mg with a reference range of 82 mg - 453 mg /dL from the SPEP / serum protein electrophoresis).

The SPEP test indicated, however, a faint M-spike of 0.11 g/dL (1.1 g/L), but the immunoglobulin was not identified – which made me think that the M-spike must be referring to the IgG band that had shown up in the previous February serum analysis. But if there is no band on the IFE then, I should have neither an IgG nor an IgA M-spike, right?

And, it seems that I have no healthy IgA if the immunoglobulin test results, 78 (total) and 111 (unhealthy) are considered. So, maybe another round of testing will clear up this situation.

After reading all the posts in the forum and the materials suggested by Andrew on secondary MGUS, I am wondering whether to be happy or not that the faint IgG kappa band has disappeared after just one month.
