Obamacare

by blair77 on Thu Jun 12, 2014 8:33 am

My husband is in his 40's and on my health insurance policy through the public school system where I teach. We are planning to make a move closer to family who can help with our small children and to be closer to a large myeloma specialty center.

In this transition I am planning to put the family on COBRA until I find a new job. I know this will be extremely expensive and am trying to look into Obamacare.

Does anyone have experience using Obamacare with this diagnosis? Any experiences or advice would be of great help.

You should post this/look in the insurance part of this forum. I do not have such experience yet, but I started a thread in the past that dealt with a similar issue. The link is here:

I think the biggest thing that you have to watch out for is whether the particular center your husband will be treated is covered by the plan you will get. Also, whether the specific procedures will be covered. For example, Sloan here in NYC is covered only by two plans. You need to be crystal clear on this point before you apply. Good luck.

Good point, ivanm. We've moved the tread to the part of the forum you suggested (sorry we didn't catch the issue earlier).

We're also thinking it might be helpful to change the title of the thread to make it clearer what it's about (and thus attract potential responses). We're a bit stuck, however, on what might be the best alternative.

Any suggestions? (Sorry, Blair. We'll get out of the way and stop hijacking your thread as soon as we clear up these logistical issues.)
