Now smoldering myeloma

by serferten on Thu Apr 27, 2017 10:19 am

From an innocent sounding blood test from a physical in January saying there was an elevated M protein, what is that I wondered, and the doc saying must see a blood oncologist, soon came the news it was actually myeloma. But, a few weeks later, the better news was it was smoldering.

All along there have been no symptoms and, as far as lifestyle, I might be one of the last people you'd suspect of getting it. Always health conscious, lots of veggies, good supplements, exercise, etc, etc.. Also, at age 69, have not been prescribed one medication,

The choice for doctor care was to try to go with the best available, and it does help much to see such expertise and understanding. This doctor knows full well I recoil at the idea of chemo and seems to be saying there will be alternatives.

Good to be a part of this impressive site! Best wishes and prayers to all!

My husband was also diagnosed in January / February this year with intermediate risk smoldering myeloma. He is the picture of health, good diet, good exercise, no meds, etc. We have been reading everything we can get our hands on to develop a better understanding of the disease biology. We were both in the medical field before retiring. For right now, the hardest part has been wondering when the 'shoe will drop'. This supportive community has been a godsend and a terrific source of information. There are many positive stories and the comments from members and medical contributors are top notch. We are settling in for whatever gets thrown our way. Good luck to you!
