Normal serum free light chains but increased b2m

by Niki on Wed Dec 04, 2013 9:22 am

Hello everybody,

I was diagnosed about 1.5 year ago and 8 months ago I achieved a sCR. I was diagnosed with oligo-secretory multiple myeloma, and I follow it wth sFLC weekly and every 6 months a BMB . The last month, the serum free light chains continue to be in the normal range but the B2M continues to increase every week.

The last B2M test was 5.2 (0.8-2). I was diagnosed 5 months ago with a lung abscess. Maybe it's because of the lung abscess or the myeloma is progressing?

Thanks
Niki

B2M can increase due to some viral infections. Also, have you looked at your kidney function markers to see if they are still looking good? B2M tends to go up when there are renal issues. And, of course, rising B2M can also mean that the multiple myeloma activity is increasing.

I assume you really aren't getting tested weekly, are you? What does your doc say?
