My husband was diagnosed with single cell plasmacytoma last July. His T1 was "obliterated" and required reconstructive surgery followed by 40 daily radiation treatments. His M protein was 0.45 g/dL before surgery and 0.18 g/dL following surgery when he began radiation. His M protein dropped to 0.15 g/dL during treatment and to to zero 3 months after radiation ended.
His blood marrow biopsy last summer did not indicate any M protein in his marrow, only in his blood. He was mildly anemic which went to normal with diet changes during treatment. His screenings with full body MRI scans and blood work for the past year have not indicated any legions and zero M proteins in his blood until this week. He now has very mild low RBC (4.4). And for the first time in a year M1 band is showing presence of 0.10 instead of zero.
We have no clue what this means and the oncologist just wants to see him for his next screening in 4 months. Why would the M protein suddenly reappear after being at zero for a year? He is obviously scared, as am I, but we feel helplessly in the dark which makes it work. Can you share any insight or knowledge on such a presentation?
