Newly Diagnosed July 2013

by toshi27 on Wed Jul 10, 2013 10:02 am

First of all sorry for my english, it's not my first language. :)

I'm a 40 years old male lives in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Since May 2013 I had experience bone pain in hip (left) and then back pain (lower and middle). On june 30 the pain become unbearable so i go to hospital for treatment. The doctor suggest that i have MRI immediately, later that night he said i probably have a Multiple Myeloma something that i never heard before and told me i better go see Hemathologist Oncologist.
So i did on 7/8 last monday, the oncologist sent me to do multiple blood and urine test and also bone survey on X-Ray.... I'm still waiting on one more result from the lab (protein) untill i can go and see the doctor again next friday.

One thing that worried me is my ferritin level is very high (1292 ng/ml), what is that mean? Do i have kidney problem...?

It is frustating because i have to wait for 2 days before i can see my doctor again and that ferritin number is scaring me.
Now i'm afraid to take pain killer that i have consumed since a week ago, i just hope that the pain is not so severe now :(

I had never heard of ferritin but did a search. It has to do with iron and your number appears to be high.
I suggest you go to the link below and hope it will ease your worry a bit.

Dear Toshi27,

A high ferritin can be a sign of iron overload or just a non-specific marker of significant inflammation. Anything that can cause significant inflammation, be it infection or otherwise, can lead to an elevated ferritin.

Hope this helps. Take care and good luck!
