Re: Newly Diagnosed 43yr old with 8.9 M-Spike

by ninja performance on Mon Feb 20, 2012 1:03 pm

Waited too long for my stem cell bone marrow transplant after chemo (trying to raise funds). Been off chemo since my initial therapy of 5 cycles V/D/R ended 11/2011. My Mspike was down to 0.1 on 11/2011. On 1/31/2012 it had risen to 0.76. I just got the results from my test last week. It is now 1.7. We are trying to get chemo lined up to knock it down again. Nothing setup yet. Should have something setup soon.

Scares me that with under 5% bone marrow biopsy results, I went from 0.76 to 1.7 in 2 weeks.

Any thoughts?

Got my shot of Velcade and Dexamethasone pills. Good to go until Thursday.

Found out today, while at my chemo appointment, my IGA (immunoglobulin A) has gone from 350 on 12/15, to 1100 on 1/31 to currently at 2200. Normal/good range is 350. I have Lambda Light chain IGA Multiple Myeloma. Time to kick some more cancer butt!

Finally ;) I am in a car on my way from sc to md to johns Hopkins Sidney kimmell cancer center to get me scbmt. July 30-31 will be my 2 days of extensive testing. Melphalan will be on August 26th. I am also in the clinical trail activated marrow infiltrating lymphocyctes which show great promise. They collected those via 10 tbls of marrow from both hips back in Feb 2012.

Excited and scared. Here we go!

I don't want to be discouraging,, but can you find even a part time job for health insurance? Or could your wife? Maybe multiple myeloma would be a preexisting condition and would not be covered by most insurance but my treatment BEFORE stem cell replacement is around 25thousand a month.
And the Blood cancer institute in Denver would not consider me without insurance.

Like I said, this is not meant to overwhelm or depress you, but maybe you could see if there is any way you could qualify

Hi,

I hope you still are doing great. Just curious to know your present details, as I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last year.

I am around 45 years old. My protein level was 17 g/L after my stem cell transplant. It kept on the upward movement and 3 months back it was 36 g/L. So my doctor put me on Revlimid 15 mg and now protein level is going down and it was 22 last week.

I also take 7 g of curcumin everyday.

Are you still on Revlimid?

Regards
