new to treatment and need opinions
I am soon to begin treatment for multiple myeloma. Dex IV 40 mg twice a week, Doxil or Lipodox 5 mg /m2 IV twice a week and Velcade 1mg/m2 SQ twice a week is what is ordered. I am on for two weeks and off for two weeks. I am scared of the high dosage of Dex and it’s effects. I am wondering what days I should take the treatments. I work Wed and Thursdays and question how it will affect my mental acuity and emotional stability particularly on those days. I would appreciate any input on this regimen. Thanks

Re: new to treatment and need opinions
You are right to be concerned about the dose of Dex, tho I would suggest that "scared" might be a bit more than is required. It will certainly change your day-to-day existence. So, over time, will the Velcade. There is some research out there indicating that a lower dose of Dex is just as effective. I know that for my next go round (whenever that may be) if the Dex/Velcade routine is still what the doctors are recommending, I won't be taking 40mg.
I don't know what your work is, but you might want to be prepared to think in terms of taking some time off. The treatment regimen will definitely wear you down over the course, and in my case work was simply not an option. I know others have maintained a work schedule, tho, so my experience is certainly not the only option.
