New to the forum, just diagnosed with MGUS

by Cookie2013 on Fri Aug 23, 2013 5:32 pm

Hi, I am new to the forum, yesterday diagnosed with MGUS, trying to get an appointment with a doctor at Mogfitt Cancer Center in Tampa for further testing. I am 56 years old, frequent sinus infections caused me to see my primary doctor, routine blood work indicated high level of IGG (>5000) protein serum high, other stuff. I am a teacher and seem to pick up everything from my kids, sick about 15 days from school last school year, at emergency room yesterday for common stomach bug (common illnesses are very elevated) have some pain in my knees, my hand falls asleep each night, have to wear carpel tunnel brace to bed, thumb pain, otherwise healthy.
Trying to research more about MGUS and would like info about it, also support. It will take me a while to use to the forum, be patient. Thanks.

Hi Mary,

You'll find a lot of discussions here in the forum related to MGUS by just typing "MGUS" in the forum search box up above. Here's a link to the search results you'll get:

This link will also take you to all the Beacon news articles with information related to MGUS:

I would look in the news articles to see if there are any that describe factors which may affect how likely an MGUS patient is to progress to active myeloma. Those will be particularly important to know about.
