New to forum - have plasmablastic plasma cell myeloma

by Bill Babcock on Fri Feb 14, 2014 5:54 pm

I'm new to the forum, but not to the Myeloma Beacon. I found this site last spring after I began treatment. My doctor was trying to determine why I was anemic and after several tests, he suspected it was due to myeloma last April. I had no other symptoms.

After the blood tests, bone marrow biopsy, and x rays, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 plasmablastic plasma cell myeloma - IgG lambda, chromosome 13 deletion, and lytic lesions of my left humerus. My M-spike was 5.0 g/dL.

After four rounds of induction therapy with Velcade, Revlimid, and dexamethasone, I underwent an autologous stem cell transplant at Siteman Cancer Center - Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis last August. After my 100 day check, there were no detectable myeloma cells in the marrow, blood, or urine. I am currently on 10 mg of Revlimid as part of a clinical trial. My hemoglobin has finally returned to a normal reading.

Hi Bill,

You're a couple of months ahead of me in the diagnosis and treatment. I had my ASCT in October but am now on RVD again for consolidation. Sounds like you had a good outcome from your transplant. Best wishes in continued good health!
