New guy from Hawaii

by Bo808 on Tue Mar 14, 2017 12:51 pm

Aloha all!

Newly diagnosed on February 9, 2017. Starting radiation treatment this Friday (left humerus and right femur. Both had IM nailing.). Induction therapy will be cyclophosphamide, Velcade, and dexamethasone (CyBorD), followed by a stem cell transplant at City of Hope in Duarte, California. Finally getting my wits about me (and my wife) and moving forward to learning about multiple myeloma.

Tom Shell was a big factor in me joining because of him being on the same island. He's on the north shore, I'm on the west shore. Finding him on the Beacon and reading his articles has been encouraging, as are the stories of all Beacon contributors.

Mahalo for having me here! God Bless!

Aloha Bo808!

I'm about 2 months ahead of you. I also had a nail in my (left) femur and a nasty back surgery. It gets better. Good luck, and I look forward to sharing experiences with you.

Mahalo Dippydoo and PositiveChris!

This is my / our new reality and just gotta move forward and stay motivated and educated. Today I go in for my verification appointment for my radiation treatments, which start next week Monday thru Friday for the next 2 weeks, then start my drug treatment regimen on the 5th of April. I also start physical therapy on my left humerus / arm to get some range of motion restored before I either get too tired, or until I go to get my stem cell transplant. Gonna try my best to keep active and exercising and moving my left arm to help deal with the treatment regimen.

So many variables with this multiple myeloma, but gotta stay focused on my personal results and not get spooked by fear and anxiety. I look forward to reading the posts here and posting my own progress! Love to all!
