I didn't begin to have neuropathy until after my 5th cycle of Velcade (twice weekly). It's worse in my right foot than my left, and the intensity varies throughout the day. Fortunately, I do not have neuropathy in my hands. I'm not experiencing pain just tingling and numbness.
My doctor has lowered my Velcade dose and suggested I take the amino acid L-glutamine 500 mg three times daily.
Next week, I start my work up for stem cell transplant, and I will be off RVD (Revlimid, Velcade, dexamethasone) in a few days, so hopefully my neuropathy will go away.

Re: Neuropathy and numbness from Velcade - how common?
I had 11 treatments (3 plus cycles) of Velcade, Cytoxan and dexamethasone and I developed major unbearable pain in both my knees and down to my toes. But mostly in my knees and usually after about two hours of sleep at night.
At the same time I had a balloon kyphoplasty in my L5 spine where I had radiation for my multiple myeloma. I had major pain in my back at the same time. The neurologists said it was arthritis in my knees, while my oncologist said the pain was caused by my back.
I eventually went to the hospital due to an infection and the back pain. I was there four nights and during that time my legs hurt and I went from being able to walk around the halls to needing someone to hold on to. All within four days.
After three MRI's of my back and an epidural I was released and at home I began falling down with weakness in my legs. After an EMG, both my neurologist and my oncologist agreed my weakness in my legs was due to my chemo. I have peripheral neuropathy.
My cancer was greatly reduced and in partial remission such that all treatments have been stopped for a few weeks.
Within ten days I went from walking to needing a walker and now have painful legs and cold feet, especially at night while I am trying to sleep. The doctor said it will be 2-3 months for my neuropathy to go away or to be greatly reduced. He wasn't sure how far it would be reduced. He said I may be able to go directly to an autologous bone marrow transplant.
I have read that this transplant may also cause additional neuropathy. I don't want to end up in a wheel chair. So I will continue asking now that I have this problem.
I tried Revlimid first and after three days my head broke out with massive heat and my body itched tremendously, so we switched to Velcade, which caused the neuropathy.
I don't know what will be next. I guess I find out in a couple of weeks.
