Re: Neupogen and bone pain (SCT prep)
Extra strength Tylenol with Claritin. I feel like I am in back labor. Terribly painful. At least I know my neutrophils are soaring.

Re: Neupogen and bone pain (SCT prep)
I don't want to rain on the parade, but I took Claritin before and during Neupogen shots before my stem cell harvesting. No luck for me. I'm glad that it works well for some. For me, the pain was very high throughout my bones, but especially my neck. By day 3, my skull felt like it was in a vice and it was hard to sleep.
So it doesn't work for everyone, but I am very glad that it does work for some. I think it is always worth mentioning, and as Dr. Voorhees mentioned, it is safe to use. While I was going through this, I kept thinking: it is like beating your head into the wall – it feels so good when you stop!

It's interesting:
All this anecdotal evidence 'for'....
is anybody doing an actual study?

Re: Neupogen and bone pain (SCT prep)
I was told not to take any Tylenol since it can mask a fever. I start the prep tomorrow and will only be allowed to take Claritin (along with an antibiotic, antiviral, and Tums for calcium).

Re: Neupogen and bone pain (SCT prep)
I had terrible bone pain with the GCSF in prep for my auto. I too was told not to take Tylenol (acetaminophen, paracetamol) because it could mask a fever. My oncologist gave me a prescription for oxycodone instead, which helped. But then I ended up in the hospital with a fever. I had a lot of antibiotics. I got pheresis over 2 days to collect the stem cells, and that fixed everything - I felt so much better after all those crazy immune cells were out of my bloodstream.

Re: Neupogen and bone pain (SCT prep)
When I underwent my mobilization, I had a lot of back pain. The Claritin helped, but a doctor also recommended Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine). The two combined reduced the spasms to a manageable level. Of course, the guy across the room from me had NO pain and said this was totally painless.
