My hubby has had IgG and IgM multiple myeloma since 2004. He has only one time dropped into the normal range after a lot of chemo! His IgG and IgM numbers hover just outside the normal range. He has not had a stem cell transplant nor has he had any treatment since the end of 2007. His M spike remained normal since then.
However, for the past year, the M-spike has gone into a negative value of 0.6. Shows up RED on his blood work. WHAT does that mean? Is it an indicator that the multiple myeloma is possibly re-awakening? The oncologist has said nothing.
Just wondering! And, thank you very much!

Re: Negative M-spike - what does it mean?
Welcome to the forum, Grandma.
You say your husband's M-spike has been normal until recently. Do you mean that it was zero?
Also, you say that your husband's M-spike is now negative 0.6. Are you assuming that it is negative because it is printed in red, or is it actually printed as -0.6 (0.6 with a negative sign in front of it) on your husband's lab results?

Re: Negative M-spike - what does it mean?
Hi GrandmaofFour,
Following up on JimNY's reply, I think your husband's M-spike showed up in red to indicate that it is an abnormal lab result. Normal is 0.0 for the M-spike. There is no such thing as a negative M-spike. That would be an M-dip, instead ofMm-spike.
In all seriousness, though, the M-spike of 0.6 is something worth discussing with your husband's oncologist.
Best wishes to you and your husband.
Mike
