Hey Brian,

That is great news that the allo went so smooth. They have made tremendous strides in allo transplantation. There are 2 other patients that were doing allos for AML (acute myeloid leukemia) at the same time I was doing mine that I have stayed in contact with and they are both doing great as well. None of the 3 of us has GVHD and we are all back to work/ living normal lives. I just had a cold and got over it in 2 days, just like a "normal" person. All my blood counts are in the normal range.

That will be great if your Donor wants to have contact with you. You may find this surprising, but my Donor said that she was told by the great folks from the Be The Match Registry that a lot of recipients do not want to contact their donors. I could not imagine any recipient not wanting to thank their donor. It takes a special person to donate. They have to go through extensive medical tests and take the time to actually donate.

Thanks for writing an update. I was wondering how things went for you. Dr. Giralt and the team at Sloan Kettering have been getting some great press lately due to Robin Roberts doing her allo there. It sounds like you agree with her view that the BMT team there are "rock stars"!
