I have been reading about the common side effect of nausea after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). What were the nausea medications that helped you overcome this?

I don't remember all of the ones that they tried with me because none of them helped me. But, Zofran (ondansetron) was one and Ativan (lorazepam) was another. I think that there were at least 2 other drugs that were tried with me, too.

I had a drug called Kytril (granisetron) which is used for nausea from chemotherapy. Also could use Gravol, an OTC, and drank ginger ale and ate ginger candies. Used fresh ginger in cooking too! Ginger is a mild ant-nauseant. I would check with your oncologist too, and the oncology nurses, who are really helpful in talking about side effects and how to minimize them.

I was offered three drugs for nausea that where all administered through IV and that I was free to try and rotate through. Like Nancy, two where Zofran and Ativan, but I also had Compazine (prochlorperazine). I started with what the nurses suggested and I forget which one it was. I remember the two I used the most where Ativan and Compazine.
While none of them made the nausea go away completely or helped with my appetite, they did keep nausea in under control. I only threw up once during my three weeks in the hospital during my SCT.

Agree with everyone else that Zofran (ondansetron), Ativan (lorazepam), and Compazine (prochlorperazine) are the standard ones offered. Some nurses recommend layering the different antinausea meds, e.g. taking one, then an hour later the second, etc. I found that lorazepam made me unpleasantly drowsy and Zofran worked the best.
Another med they use sometimes is the scopolamine transdermal patch. That's the one that they give people who go on cruises and get seasick. It's kind of neat – you stick a little patch behind your ear and it does its magic.
Between all the drugs and ginger, too, there are really a lot of good options.

I have used Zofran. My current onc recommended prochlorperazine, less risk of a headache. It works fine on upset tummy. Doesn't help get appetite back (or drinking), but I find it helpful.

Best for me is ondansetron orally disintegrating tablets. It works immediately for me.

Compizne, zofran, and phenagrin were given to me on different hourly intervals, nothing really helped me but taking these on a hourly schedule did relieve it some

They also tried Marinol (dronabinol) with my husband. It is a man-made form of cannabis. It did help his nausea, but also caused hallucinations that he did not care for. It's hard to say whether the hallucinations were caused by the Marinol, or by the fact that they were layering so many different anti-nausea drugs trying to find something that would help him.
The hallucinations were actually kind of amusing, and even had him smiling, but were more than he wanted to deal with at the time.
