Going to try naltrexone

While working in my basement today, I happened to remember a book I had on alternative cancer treatments, most of which are way too out there for me. But one has intrigued me that I am going to try. It is called low dose naltrexone and is only listed as alternative because there have been no clinical trials yet on cancer, even though there are some success stories. The drug companies would never do a trial on it because it would not make them a bunch of money as it is relatively cheap.

There have been trials done on it for the treatment of fibromyalgia and chronic pain and for that I feel my insurance would cover it and I know my pain doctor would prescribe it. I see him on Jan. 8 for my trigger point injections in my back and hips and will have him call it in to my compounding pharmacy. When I see my oncologist on Jan. 13, I am refusing to try the Cytoxan or any other chemo for at least a month to give this a try. It may help my pain and also my cancer with little to no side effects. I will stay on the Velcade and prednisone, but not add anything else.

A Dr. Bihari had quite a bit of success treating his cancer patients with this if they were not too far along, and that included some with multiple myeloma. It does not cure it, but does allow for some very good remissions for those not too far advanced. Dr. David Gluck explains it some on his website.

Hi Sue, Hope that the Velcade plus prednisone works really well for you! You could be surprised at how quickly it can reduce the M protein actually. Any time I have been on chemo drugs, I have been cautioned by the medical staff not to take any supplements. With Velcade, even green tea or vitamin C tablets were not recommended, although I think that that info may have changed since I took it five years ago. So don't be too surprised if your doctor discourages you from taking a second drug at the same time as the Velcade.

Haven't tried Cytoxan but I observe that it seems to be coming into use now as many patients seem to have it as part of their drug combinations.

Best of luck with your treatments and hope that you get into a remission from myeloma soon too.
