Re: My experience with naltrexone & bupropion (Contrave)

Just got my prescription for Contrave. I have fibromyalgia and skeletal, back, and joint pain. My doctor said I must be off my opioid for a week before I start Contrave. He gave me a prescription for my pain medication anyway. He said that, with my severe pain, he doesn't think I will be able to stop my pain med, and after a couple days I would be racing to have it filled. He said if I started the Contrave with pain med still in my system, it could cause seizures and or death. I haven't taken any going on 3 days and I didn't know I could be in this much pain. It seems way worse than a year ago when I started my pain medication. Guess my condition worsened I can't believe the difference just taking 1 or 2 pain pills a day was making in my pain tolerance.

I have battled depression for years. I lost my son 3 years ago, and the depression and added disorientation got so bad for 2 and half years. Just didn't care if I lived or died. I am beginning to care somewhat and have gotten pretty heavy. I hurt so bad I sent the pain prescription to the drug store instead of the Contrave scrip. Just gave up. Then I did a search (can Contrave help with chronic pain) and found this discussion. I learned a lot, as you have similar pains to mine. It has given me the desire to try to hang in there and try the Contrave. I will pick up my pain scrip and lock it away (wasn't ever addicted to it; just 325 once or twice a day).

Anyway, if there is any chance my chronic pain and severe fatigue can improve with Contrave, then the weight loss would be a plus. The only thing that makes me really afraid of beginning the Contrave is my doctor tried me on Welbutrin (bupropion) a little over a year ago for my severe depression and the second day I had a seizure, which was terrifying, and had to stop Welbutrin immediately.

Thank you so much for the info. I will keep you informed on my progress. I am praying I will get good results as you have. So if I don't have a seizure or die, I'll get back to ya'll. Lol
