Sarah123,
Just wanted to share that Kaiser does have collaborations with specialists outside the Kaiser, but you have to find a doctor who is willing to do so. We are in Northern California, so I'm afraid my info won't be super helpful to you, but our Kaiser doctor regularly consults with specialists at UCSF and Stanford, and Kaiser 100% covered my husband's treatment and transplant at Stanford, as well as later consultations with doctors there (as long as his doctor said it was what was needed, Kaiser said OK).
I hope that are able to continue to "shop around" with Kaiser doctors until you find one that gives you what you need. Good luck!

Re: Myeloma specialists in Los Angeles / San Francisco areas
I go to USC Keck in Los Angeles. Dr. Ann Mohrbacher is excellent and has treated me for 5 years. Excellent staff and excellent oncologist. Highly recommended.

Re: Myeloma specialists in Los Angeles / San Francisco areas
One thing Coop didn't mention about his experience with USC / Dr. Mohrbacher, but I think might be worth mentioning, is that Dr. Mohrbacher has made it possible for Coop to take Velcade at home, rather than requiring him to go to a doctor's office every time he has to do a Velcade injection. From what I see here in the forum and talking to other patients, there are not many doctors who are open minded enough to let their patients self-inject Velcade.
Coop discusses his experience self-injecting Velcade in this forum thread:

Not only is she a great doctor, she will take cost and distance you have to travel into consideration. She works with you to make it convenient for your treatment. I've never had such an intelligent and compassionate doctor. I trust her with my life.

In the San Francisco area at UCSF, the multiple myeloma specialists are Dr. Jeff Wolf and Dr. Tom Martin. Their office is in the 400 Parnassus Ave Medical Building.
