Re: Myeloma specialist - Norfolk / Virginia Beach / nearby?
You may already have seen this listing, but, if you haven't, it's a very good starting point:
https://myelomabeacon.org/treatment-centers/
You'll find myeloma treatment centers in the list that are located in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina.
In the DC area, Johns Hopkins seems to have the largest and most experienced group of myeloma specialists. Closer to where you're looking, there have been people here in the forum who see specialists at Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, but my impression is that the myeloma specialists there are not as deeply involved in research as, say, Hopkins.
In North Carolina, you have both UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke in the Research Triangle. Both have respected myeloma specialists on staff. Dr. Voorhees from UNC-Chapel Hill contributes regularly here in the forum.

There are several good oncologists at Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA) who work extensively with multiple myeloma patients, although not exclusively. VOA also does auto stem cell transplants, both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. I'm followed at that Norfolk practice but also see an expert consult at Dana Farber in Boston.
The centers and resources posted in the other response are also excellent. There are quite a few multiple myeloma patients here in the Hampton Roads / Tidewater area, so you're not alone. Best of luck.

Re: Myeloma specialist - Norfolk / Virginia Beach / nearby?
Good morning MMW:
I think responses so far have been very good. However, I will add that, observing the forum, many people who live outside of a major city have a local doctor that they see, and get the routine tests done, and they have a myeloma specialist (their guru) that they drive several hours to see on a less frequent basis. The multiple myeloma specialist should be someone who does multiple myeloma almost 100% of the time, and the local doc should be a general hematologist who would be willing to work with the guru.
