Myeloma in remission but with serum kappa & lamda

by MarthaJoy7 on Fri Mar 07, 2014 10:36 pm

Diagnosed w/stage IV multiple myeloma when hematocrit got down to 5.2. Had to have 4 units of blood right away. Went through 6 cycles of CyBorD (VCD; Velcade [bortezomib], cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone) before having stem cells harvested.

Underwent about 6 months of Velcade weekly before finishing stem cell transplant. Note: from harvest through transplant - no M spike detected.

Now at about 125 days post transplant. Bone marrow biopsy came back totally clean, however, blood serum studies are showing lamda and kappa monoclonal cells.

Wondering where these light chains are coming from if not from bone marrow.
